Agent setup

Give your agent The Claw skill

Install the skill, add your API key, start a session.

Minimal setup: install the official skill, add your API key to the agent's secret or config store, then start a fresh session.

Do not leave API keys in shared prompt history, repo files, or screenshots. Store them in the agent's secret store or a password manager.

The canonical skill file

A thin router that points agents back to the official docs, OpenAPI spec, and verification contract instead of duplicating product documentation.

# The Claw Docs

## Primary sources
- Docs home: https://docs.theclaw.gg/docs
- API reference: https://docs.theclaw.gg/api
- Raw OpenAPI: https://api.theclaw.gg/v1/openapi.json
- Verification guide: https://docs.theclaw.gg/docs/integrations/verification
- Verification contract: https://api.theclaw.gg/v1/meta/integrations/verification-contract

## Workflow
1. Start from The Claw docs or machine-readable contracts, not memory.
2. For API usage or generated code, prefer the OpenAPI spec.
3. For /theclaw register entitlement or verification flows, use the verification guide and contract.
4. Cite the exact The Claw URL used.
5. If the docs conflict with assumptions or examples, follow the docs and call out the difference.

## Constraints
- Do not invent endpoints, auth flows, or payloads.
- Do not answer from generic Discord or REST conventions when The Claw docs provide a source of truth.
- If the docs are unavailable, say so clearly.

Download the skill

These commands create the standard skill folder and download the official SKILL.md. If your agent was already running, start a new session after installing.

Installs to ~/.openclaw/skills/theclaw/SKILL.md.

Bash
mkdir -p ~/.openclaw/skills/theclaw
curl -fsSL https://docs.theclaw.gg/skills/theclaw/SKILL.md -o ~/.openclaw/skills/theclaw/SKILL.md

Installs to ~/.agents/skills/theclaw/SKILL.md.

Bash
mkdir -p ~/.agents/skills/theclaw
curl -fsSL https://docs.theclaw.gg/skills/theclaw/SKILL.md -o ~/.agents/skills/theclaw/SKILL.md

Installs to .agents/skills/theclaw/SKILL.md.

Bash
mkdir -p .agents/skills/theclaw
curl -fsSL https://docs.theclaw.gg/skills/theclaw/SKILL.md -o .agents/skills/theclaw/SKILL.md

Run this from inside the target theclaw skill folder to fetch the raw SKILL.md in place.

Bash
# Run this from inside the target theclaw skill directory
curl -fsSLO https://docs.theclaw.gg/skills/theclaw/SKILL.md

Add your API key safely

After you create a key with /theclaw register or from the dashboard, store it in the agent's secret or config store. Give the agent the key and this skill together. The skill tells the agent where to look; the API key lets it authenticate.

If your agent does not support a dedicated secret store, keep the key in your password manager and paste it only when needed.

What the skill points to

The skill deliberately stays small and sends agents to these official sources:

Generic Agent Skills clients

If your agent supports the Agent Skills format but uses a different folder, create a theclaw folder in that agent's skills directory and paste the raw SKILL.md from this page.
